Jungbluth Water-Cooled Cushman M8/M9 motor

STK 3276 1960 Cushman Powered Micro Midget Race Car

This racecar was built to compete in the National Modified Midget Association race circuit. Many of these cars were designed and built by the individual race teams. We are told that the car was built and campaigned in the early '60s by Robert Jungbluth. After numerous successful trophy-winning seasons, the car was purchased by Ray and Mary Gabbard and has been on display at the Dennis Carpenter Automotive Museum in Concord, NC. The car appears to be complete and as-raced as best we can tell. Power is furnished by a modified Cushman M8/M9 engine that is said to produce 25hp and capable of pulling 7,000 RPMs. Robert Jungbluth designed and incorporated a revolutionary water-cooled system for the Cushman engine. At the time, this was a unique concept for a small-displacement racing engine. Other Jungbluth upgrades to the Cushman motor include:
• HD cast iron block w/water jackets
• Dual roller-bearing crankshaft bearings
• 4-Bolt forged steel connecting rod
• Aluminum piston
• Modified cylinder head w/relocated valve seats/larger valves
• Heavy-duty oiling system
The body 'tub' is in excellent condition and is painted as when raced. All suspension components also appear to be in very good condition. Braking is provided by a dual hydraulic caliper/disc system on the rear axle and aluminum wheels mount period-correct Dunlop Racing tires. The upholstered seat w/racing belts is actually comfortable (for a racing seat). We do not have any additional details on the car but do have extensive documentation relating to the design features of the Jungbluth water-cooled Cushman M8/M9 motor. This is a historic racecar from the NMMA circuit that is a true collector car. It is sold on a 'Bill of Sale'. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
