1923 Lincoln Doctor's Coupe

Description

STK 2446 1923 Lincoln Doctor's Coupe

Henry Leland, one of the founders of Cadillac, left there during the First World War and founded the Lincoln Motor Company in 1917 to build Liberty aircraft engines. At the conclusion of the War, Leland was forced with the decision to either close the plant, or try to find another business for the 6000 employee's and the factory. The factory was retooled to accommodate luxury automobile manufacturing. This 1923 Lincoln Doctor's Coupe is a testament to what they designed and built. Nothing was left to chance - it is an engineering marvel and a work of art. Lincolns were assembled by coachbuilders and this Doctor's Coupe was created with an aluminum body fitted to a wooden framework. The exterior is original except for one Tan-over-Black repaint. There are huge factory adjustable headlights and a brass windshield frame. White-wall tires are mounted on stunning 23” wooden spoke wheels along with two rear-mounted spares to help the doctors deal with the farm roads of the day. The original Mohair interior is stunning. An amazing 'Tilt-A-Way' wooden steering wheel folds neatly forward for easy entry/exit. A cluster of vintage gauges includes the factory Waltham speedometer and clock. Horsepower is provided by a stock 358ci flathead V8 with electric starter. It puts out an amazing 90bhp and looks like it could easily power any bi-plane of that era. The transmission is a 3-speed manual with overdrive that yields a top speed of over 70 mph. How many of these 1923 Doctor's Coupe exist today? Probably less than a dozen, and very few if any in this original condition. The attention to detail throughout the entire automobile is impossible to show in photos. This vintage Lincoln is truly a classic and it will vastly improve the value of your garage. Take a trip to the AutoBarn - you will not be disappointed. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
