STK 2905 1957 Ford Thunderbird

The Thunderbird was introduced as a sporty competitor to the Corvette and many say that the T'bird actually saved the 'Vette from extinction. The 1957 Thunderbird set a sales record with over 21,000 cars sold. It presented a new front fascia, new rear taillight/fin design and features carried over from the previous year including a 12-volt electrical system and deep-dish 'safety' steering wheel. Originally a California car, this Award-Winning Thunderbird was shipped east to North Carolina in 1992 and fully restored in 1996. Our owner (15 years) believes that this is a matching-numbers Thunderbird and has included documentation regarding the restoration and maintenance along with copies of the window sticker and the factory Owners Manual. The T'bird looks very distinguished with a professional re-spray of Torch Red (non-original color) accented by rear fender skirts, excellent chrome and wide-white Coker radials mounted on stunning Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. A removable hardtop w/portholes is paired with a manual white soft top. (The fabric of the soft top is due for replacement, but the top's frame is solid and rust free.) The interior was carefully reupholstered in creme vinyl and includes the restyled '57 instrument cluster with round gauges. Features include A/C, telescopic wheel, power seats, power windows and AM/FM radio (replacement) - it is a very nice space. Power is provided by the rebuilt Thunderbird 312ci Y-block rated at 245hp. The spotless engine compartment appears to be totally original. One of the factory options on the car was the 'Engine Dress-up Kit' with over-sized air cleaner assembly and chrome accents. Fuel is managed by a Holley 4V carb and an electric fan aids cooling. The 12v generator electrics have been converted to an alternator-based system. This Y-block is backed by Ford's time-honored Ford-O-Matic transmission and the chassis is equipped with power steering and power brakes (front brakes converted to discs). Shocks have been upgraded to Bilstein units and a rear sway bar has been added. There are few of these classic Thunderbirds around in this condition for the serious Blue Oval loyalist and this car deserves your scrutiny. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
