1956 Ford Thunderbird Roadster-
The first generation Ford Thunderbird, introduced in 1955, was marketed as a personal luxury vehicle. Its distinctive design combined elegance and performance. The first generation ran from 1955 thru 1957 and established a legacy that would influence future models.
Professional Restoration-
The current owner of this '56 Thunderbird has been the caretaker for over 42 years. The roadster was the beneficiary of a total restoration with serious mechanical upgrades in 2000. The body was professionally refinished in Turquoise/Blue and the finish is in overall excellent condition. Accents include rear fender skirts and replica 15” Thunderbird cross-lace wire wheels that mount classic whitewall radial tires. All chrome/stainless components are in very good condition and the roadster is equipped with a nice manual soft-top. The handsome vinyl interior was carefully re-upholstered and completely refreshed. The classic 'Astra-Dial Control Panel” dash houses a full factory gauge package including tachometer and analog clock. A Vintage Air climate-control system has been added along with an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette sound system. An ididit tilt-wheel column provides easy entry/exit and mounts a handsome color-matched wheel w/chrome horn ring.
Upgraded 302 Windsor and C-4 Drivetrain-
According to the VIN, this 'P' code Thunderbird was factory equipped with a 312ci/4V engine rated at 225hp. At the time of restoration, this motor was replaced with an early-80's 302ci Windsor that was rebuilt to stock specs. It is equipped with an Edelbrock aluminum intake/carburetor and carefully dressed with chrome/aluminum accents. Cooling is managed by an aluminum radiator and electric fan and the Windsor is backed by a rebuilt Ford C-4 automatic gearbox. Torque is transferred to a refreshed Ford 8” differential with street gearing.
Fatman Fabrications Suspension-
The clean chassis has been fitted with a Mustang II rack-and-pinion front-end built by Fatman Fabrications and brakes have been upgraded to a power-assisted 4-wheel disc setup w/dual master.
The '56 Thunderbird is a classic two-seat cruiser celebrated for its iconic design and vintage prestige. This carefully restored roadster belongs in your Blue Oval garage.
