STK 2574 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

This rare 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was a popular model for Volkswagen for almost 20 years. First introduced in America in 1956, the Ghia brand was manufactured through 1974 with a total build of 385,000 cars. The Ghia was based on the Beetle floor-pan, but was 3” longer and 7” lower. Volkswagen shipped Beetle 'chassis' without bodies to Karmann Coachworks in Osnabruck, Germany and Karmann added a hand-formed body to complete each Ghia. This 1970 coupe is a classic example of this beautifully designed car. An exterior respray of red has been applied as a single stage finish and is in good condition. The rocker panels do have some minor spot rust, but the chassis appears sturdy. The interior has been partially restored and presents well. There is a factory AM radio and an aftermarket CD player mounted under the wood grain dash. Karmann Ghias are powered by air-cooled Volkswagen flat-four engines. The owner states that this engine is a replacement 1.6L motor with approximately 58k miles (not rebuilt). It is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission that shifts well. Suspension appears to be stock and drum brakes are standard. Radial tires are mounted on 15” Minilite-style wheels. Our Ghia has no air conditioning, power seats or power locks, but does possess an inspiring look from days gone by – a craftsman's touch. Roll down the windows and have some fun!
