STK 3264 1987 Buick Grand National

Engineers from GM's Buick Division conceived the Buick T-Type/Grand National in 1982 to commemorate Buick's success in the NASCAR. Only about 200 Buick T-Types were produced in 1982, but the public grabbed them up. Buick knew they were onto something and full-production of the T-Type/Grand National began in 1984. The 1987 Grand National was everything that Buick could design into their muscle car creation, as it was to be the final year for the Buick Regal model. Many performance and chassis components were upgraded to send the Grand National out in style.

The owner of this '87 Buick Grand National (29 years) states that the mileage shown, 20,700, is actual and has furnished the original window sticker with the car. He has taken exemplary care of this unique classic, but also added some serious performance upgrades of his own to create a powerful, yet manageable street machine. The owner states that he has never run the car at a drag strip, but has shamed more than a few Corvettes at local stoplights. Receipts and records for upgrades to the Buick are included with the car. The original Black finish (code 19U - only GN color) is in very, very nice condition. Dual sport mirrors and subtle visual accents front and rear truly impact the overall appearance of the coupe. Sumitumo (f) and BFGoodrich (r) performance radials are mounted on Buick GNX chrome/black wire alloys and give the GN a very serious look (factory GN wheels/tires included). The interior is in virtually original condition. Features include comfortable grey/black cloth reclining bucket seats w/logos, air conditioning, Delco AM/FM/cassette stereo, power tinted windows, sunroof, power locks, cruise and tilt wheel. The GN option adds a full gauge package and center console w/floor mounted shifter.

The Buick Grand National is a comfortable ride, but the GN is really all about performance. The '87 GN 3.8L V6 was equipped with a Garrett TBO348 turbo that provided up to 12psi of boost and produced 245bhp and 355ft/lb of torque. Our owner has replaced this relatively small original turbo unit with an upgraded turbo package, Burton intercooler and Siemens Deka IV injectors (7). A MAFT Pro tuner chip has been added as well as custom air intake/exhaust systems. JE Billet Racing pistons have been fitted to cylinders that were 'clean-up' bored. Champion GN-1 14-bolt aluminum heads were installed along with a head bolt stud kit and 1.55 roller rocker/valve spring upgrade package. A main-cap girdle was also fitted to the bottom end. We do not have a dyno-sheet, but this 3.8 is a well-designed beast. It is backed by GM 200-R4 automatic transmission w/3200-3400 stall XHD lockup convertor (10”) and positraction rear end fitted with a heavy-duty carrier and 3.70:1 gearing. The entire undercarriage is nicely detailed and very solid. Steering is power-assisted and power disc/drum drums provide plenty of stopping power. Both front/rear suspensions are coil springs w/heavy-duty sway bars and shocks. This '87 Buick Grand National will be a serious upgrade to your GM garage. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
