STK 3416 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS SS Z11 Pace Car

The 1969 Camaro was named official Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet created a beautiful White/Orange Camaro RS/SS convertible to meet the challenge and then produced a limited number (said to be 3,675) of the 'Indy 500 Pace Car' models for sale to the public. These cars used stock Camaro performance drivetrain components, but had unique styling options. This fully restored '69 Camaro RS/SS convertible is a true Pace Car tribute, a factory replica of the 'Indy 500 Pace Car'. The build date, VIN, engine, transmission, rear end and other components all match up with a Pace Car that would have been built within the production date range. The trim tag on the firewall has all of the correct codes unique to the factory 'Indy Sport Accents' package (code Z11).

Horsepower is furnished by a 350ci/300hp motor that has the correct casting number for a Pace Car. It is said to have been completely rebuilt and appears to be as factory. The small-block is equipped with a Quadrajet 4V carburetor and period-correct Chevy alloy valve covers (which may have been added at some point). Torque is delivered by a 3-speed Turbo Hydra-matic transmission w/correct VIN stamp to a 12-bolt differential w/correct stamping that was factory fitted with 3.07:1 Detroit gears. A spotless chassis is equipped with power steering and power disc/drum brakes w/dual master.

The Camaro's body was carefully prepped and professionally finished in the Indy Pace Car colors of Dover White (code 50A) with Orange Z28-style accents on the hood and deck lid (code 720). All Indy 500 Pace Cars were factory optioned with the Rally Sport/Super Sport accent packages that added vacuum operated hide-away headlights, simulated rear fender louvers and taillight trim. There is also a ZL2 functional cowl induction hood and a subtle rear spoiler. This convertible has the 'Indy 500' decals on the doors, originally a dealer installed option, and GM 14” Rally wheels mount Firestone Wide Oval bias tires. A fully restored interior is outstanding. This interior color was available only in the Indy 500 Pace Car version and featured orange 'houndstooth' upholstery and door panels. Other options on this Camaro include a full console w/shifter, 3-spoke wheel, full gauge package w/tachometer, tinted windows, manual white convertible top and AM radio. This Camaro 'Indy 500 Pace Car' is Bowtie history that will only become more valuable over time. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
