STK 3437 1960 Lotus Model 18 Formula Junior

In March of 1960, Lotus Car Company sponsored a newly designed Lotus 18, rear engine, open wheel racecar to run at Goodwood Racecourse in the UK. The engine was a 4 cylinder Ford and the driver was Jimmy Clark, who would win his first race that day. Clark would go on win (2) world championships in Formula 1 and was one of the first drivers to race a rear engine car at the Indy 500 in 1963. In 1965, five years after his first win in a Lotus 18, Jimmy Clark won the Indy 500 with a Lotus 38/Ford powered car that was an offspring of the Lotus 18. The infamous Sterling Moss also won Monaco in 1961 in a Lotus 18 powered by a Climax engine. Today the Lotus 18 continues to be very popular and is raced on vintage road courses in North America, Britain, New Zealand, and Australia. Parts are readily available and organizations like Monoposto Racing, SVRA, HSR, VDCA, VSCDA all accept this car for entry into most of their events.

This Lotus 18 was completely restored (2000) by GMT Racing, Danbury CT and has been raced at tracks all over the US and Canada. The Lotus has been race maintained by Apex Vintage Racing, LLC. The engine was overhauled in May 2020. Included in the rebuild were new 1100cc cylinder sleeves, new Carillo pistons/rings/connecting rods, bearings, tappets, push rods and a new Richardson MAE cylinder head. A Tilton Rallye clutch assembly was also installed. The car has been raced only three times (6 hours) since. Extensive service/maintenance records and receipts are included with the car. This Lotus is virtually race-ready and the owner is available to answer specific questions that a potential Buyer may have.
