STK 3333 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible

The second generation ('71-'73) Cougar was the last Mercury 'pony car' and the last ragtop produced by FoMoCo for over a decade. It is considered by many to be 'the' luxury pony car with a look and style influenced by the Continental Mark IV. This 1971 Cougar XR-7 is mostly original with new paint and some mechanical upgrades. The two-stage Maroon Metallic re-spray is in overall good condition, but does have some paint/surface imperfections in a few areas. The exterior is accented by 18” Coys chrome alloy wheels that mount Sumitomo HTRZ performance radials. The interior appears to be original and shows only normal wear for a car of this age. The Cougar is equipped with factory air (needs TLC), power tinted windows, power locks and factory gauge package (XR-7 adds tachometer). A Pioneer AM/FM/MP3 sound system has also been installed. There is a handsome power-assisted black convertible top w/matching boot, both in good condition. According to the VIN, the Cougar was factory equipped with the 351ci/2V Cleveland engine (H-code), but the current owner believes that this engine was replaced at some point with a 5.0L Windsor that is fitted with electronic fuel injection. It is backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission and factory differential (original gearing was 3.00:1 / 6-code). The chassis is equipped with power steering, power disc/drum brakes w/dual master cylinder, front sway bar and dual exhaust. The owner is ready to pass this classic Cougar XR-7 on to its next owner - why not you? ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS-IS”
