STK 3735 1916 Cleveland Model 1-B

The Cleveland Motorcycle Manufacturing Company built their first generation motorcycles from 1902 until 1905. They resumed production of the second generation bikes in 1915 and remained in business until the Great Depression of 1929. During WWI, dependable Cleveland motorcycles were used extensively by US forces for courier duty. This 1916 Cleveland Model 1-A is an unrestored, original classic that is very complete. The engineers at Cleveland designed an innovative dual-rail frame for this second generation motorcycle and horsepower was furnished by a single-cylinder 221cc 2-cycle motor that was said to output 2.5 horsepower. The engine was installed in a longitudinal configuration and transferred torque to a two-speed gearbox w/side-lever shifter. Final drive was right-hand sprocket/chain and a worm-gear unit furnished power to a rear-mounted magneto. The engine of this Model 1-A runs well and the transmission functions properly. The Cleveland is equipped with 26” rims, full front/rear fenders, 1.5 gal. torpedo fuel tank and foot pegs. There is also a front headlight, sprung leather seat, rear center-stand and luggage rack. Dry weight of the Model 1-A is approximately 150lbs. The front suspension is a trapezoidal 4-tube single-spring design similar to that used on Triumphs of that era, except the spring was positioned horizontally on the Cleveland. The rear suspension is hard-tail and the rear brake is a foot-operated contracting-band design. Without question, this is a wonderful example of an original classic Cleveland Model 1-A motorcycle that belongs in your collection. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
