1929 Mercedes-Benz Gazelle

Description

STK 3773 1929 Mercedes-Benz Gazelle

The Gazelle is a popular replica of the 1929 Mercedes-Benz SSK, one of the most iconic sports car from the 1920s. Manufactured by Classic Motor Carriages, the Gazelle kit offers enthusiasts the opportunity to build their own version of this vintage vehicle. The Gazelle captures the essence of a bygone era with its sleek lines, distinctive grille, and classic styling cues. The original owner purchased this Gazelle kit in 1995, but the second owner did most of the work to complete the car in 2018. A comprehensive package of documentation relating to the build is provided with the roadster. The Gazelle is constructed around a 1969 Volkswagen chassis and drivetrain and a fiberglass body that closely resembles the original SSK design is nicely factory finished with gelcoat, not paint. Nostalgic exterior features include an abundance of chrome accents, windshield wings, fog lights, rear mounted spare tire and classic headlights and taillights. Superior brand 14” chrome wheels are fitted with wire wheel covers and mount Travelstar vintage whitewall radials. The interior was upholstered in black/burgundy vinyl and a handsome wooden dash is accented by a wood/alloy wheel and a full set of Dolphin analog gauges. Tunes are provided by an Autosound AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo system and a convertible top w/side curtains is in good condition. This Gazelle is powered by a 1600cc Volkswagen air-cooled powerplant that was rebuilt in 2021 and is mated to 4-speed VW transaxle. Some versions of the 1600 were equipped with Volkswagen's early fuel injection which could be somewhat troublesome, but this engine has a simple dual-port intake and 34 PICT-3 VW carburetor - it runs very well. The chassis is equipped with manual steering, 4-wheel drum brakes, EMPI performance gas shocks and a custom exhaust. Whether used for leisurely weekend drives or showcased a car show, the Gazelle offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to own a piece of automotive history and enjoy the thrill of driving a classic open roadster. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
